Cartago is a beautiful city in Costa Rica, located southeast of San José. The city of Cartago owes its name to the ancient North African city of the same name Cartago of the Punic State. Cartago is the second smallest province in the country, after Heredia. Its total area covers an area of 3,124.6 km². The population is 515.385 according to the last resources. Cartago climate is characterized by moderate rains and cool temperatures. Cartago is well known as an old city of Costa Rica and another nickname that Cartago has is the old Metropoli. Cartagines is the term used torefer to the people who live in Cartago. The colors of the flag of Cartago are blue and white.
