Lankester Botanical Garden
British orchidologist Charles H. Lankester, who came to work in Costa Rica in 1940, founded the Lankester Botanical Garden in 1917 with the aim of preserving flora in Central America. When he died, the gardens were purchased by the Orchid Society of North America and the Stanley Smith English Foundation, which in 1973 became part of the University of Costa Rica and is responsible for administration today. According to research, there are around 15,000 orchids in this garden, of which about 1,000 species are from Central America. February and April are the months in which you can see the greatest variety of plants such as cacti , succulents, bamboos, heliconias , bromeliaceae, etc. The Lankester Botanic Garden has 10.7 hectares and contains some of the most important orchids in the world.
