Lankester Botanical Garden

  British orchidologist Charles H. Lankester, who came to work in Costa Rica in 1940, founded the Lankester Botanical Garden in 1917 with the aim of preserving flora in Central America. When he died, the gardens were purchased by the Orchid Society of North America and the Stanley Smith English Foundation, which in 1973 became part of the University of Costa Rica and is responsible for administration today. According to research, there are around 15,000 orchids in this garden, of which about 1,000 species are from Central America. February and April are the months in which you can see the greatest variety of plants such as cacti ,  succulents, bamboos, heliconias ,  bromeliaceae, etc.   The Lankester Botanic Garden has 10.7 hectares and contains some of the most important orchids in the world. The Japanese Garden is one of the biggest attractions, and its green areas make this Lankester Botanical Garden the perfect place for a wedding or business meeting.  ...

The ruins of Ujarras

  The amazing fact about Cartago it’s that there are beautiful places in all the city in which you can spend time with your loves one but also you can learn new thing and the history of each place. The Ruins of Ujarrás, is one of those places in which the history and the background of this place make it unique, this place is located near of Paraiso   Cartago , one   kilometer from the northwest shore of Lake Cachí. This small church was built between 1575 y 1580 however there was not only a church also there was a school, a cemetery, and a convent. Unfortunately, this place got abandoned for indigenous population because at the time there were several epidemics and the people had to evacuate the area. The ruins of Ujarras is a temple dedicated to the Virgen del Rescate. Many people visit this place, especially every April 14, when a pilgrimage is celebrated in honor of the Virgen del Rescate.
