The ruins of Ujarras
The amazing fact about Cartago it’s that there are
beautiful places in all the city in which you can spend time with your loves one
but also you can learn new thing and the history of each place. The Ruins of
Ujarrás, is one of those places in which the history and the background of this
place make it unique, this place is located near of Paraiso Cartago , one kilometer from the northwest shore of Lake
Cachí.
This small church was built between 1575 y 1580 however
there was not only a church also there was a school, a cemetery, and a convent.
Unfortunately, this place got abandoned for indigenous population because at
the time there were several epidemics and the people had to evacuate the area.
The ruins of Ujarras is a temple dedicated to the
Virgen del Rescate. Many people visit this place, especially every April 14,
when a pilgrimage is celebrated in honor of the Virgen del Rescate. Today's
Ujarras ruins are surrounded by lovely gardens and make the perfect location
for a picnic and historical exploration. It is a beautiful and fascinating place
that has been partially restored, and
visitors can walk through the old church.
